Animal Rehabilitation: Practice, Research, Education
Artio Animal Rehabilitation brings together a sanctuary for animals who can’t return to the wild, research into the relationships that shape their care, and advisory support and education for others doing similar work. From 2027, it will offer physiotherapy treatment for both domesticated and non-domesticated animals.
Rehabilitation happens through relationship, not just treatment.
Artio is a Celtic bear goddess known for protection and guardianship, nurturing, regeneration, transformation, and sharing knowledge. Those are the values I bring to my work with animals in caring for them in my sanctuary, supporting their recovery through physiotherapy, researching how they heal, and teaching others what I have learned.
It felt like the right name for a practice built on providing care and safety, and supporting healing, across boundaries of species, categories, and definitions of wildness and domestication.
Also for recognising our own place within the animal kingdom – our Animalhood™ - alongside our kin.
