Akeso Animal Rehabilitation
Akeso Animal Physiotherapy is dedicated to the recovery, comfort, and quality of life of small animals. Whether it's your family dog recovering from surgery, your cat easing into old age, or even a rescued hedgehog that most physiotherapists have never been asked to treat. I work exclusively with small animals: dogs, cats, and other companion or exotic species. This is a deliberate choice, built on years of hands-on experience with exactly these kinds of animals, long before I trained formally as a physiotherapist.

Recovery
Supporting animals recovering from surgery, injury, or illness by reducing pain, restoring movement, and rebuilding strength and confidence.

Living well with chronic conditions
Helping animals manage arthritis, degenerative conditions, and long-term disability with less pain and better function. This includes animals who will never fully "recover," but can still have good quality of life.

Maintenance and wellbeing
Keeping healthy animals moving comfortably, spotting problems early, and supporting bodies as they age.
What is animal physiotherapy?
Animal physiotherapy assesses and treats musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, supporting an animal's recovery from injury, surgery, or illness, and helping manage the effects of ageing or chronic conditions. Using manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise, and supportive advice, physiotherapy can reduce pain, restore mobility, and help an animal get back to living life as fully as possible. It's not only for animals in recovery. Physiotherapy also has a valuable role in maintenance, keeping active bodies moving well and catching small problems before they become bigger ones.
Recovery doesn't always mean a full cure. Some animals will return to how they were before. Others will live with an injury or a permanent disability for the rest of their lives and physiotherapy can still make a real difference to how well they live with it. Both are forms of healing, and both matter equally here.

Who I work with

Dogs & Cats
Supporting and facilitating recovery and healing for the non-human members of your family. I can treat a range of physical health conditions, towards improved comfort and function.

Exotic Animals & Wildlife
Alongside my work with dogs and cats, I specialise in treating 'exotic' animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small mammals and birds that are often overlooked in physiotherapy practice.
A core influence for this work comes from many years of experience and practice as a wildlife rehabilitator, and the owner of my own sanctuary.
What makes Akeso different
I came to formal physiotherapy training later in my career, but I didn't come to animal rehabilitation late. For years before I qualified, I've already been using physiotherapy-based techniques to support injured and disabled wild animals through my work as a licensed wildlife sanctuary owner and rehabilitator - animals with no owner to advocate for them, and often no textbook to follow.
That background, combined with my current PhD research into the care and rehabilitation of wild animals, and my earlier career as a psychologist specialising in trauma, resilience, and recovery, shapes how I work with every animal that comes through my door. I understand recovery as more than a set of treatments. It is a process and a relationship - physical, behavioural, and emotional - for the animal in front of me, and the person caring for them.
